How the plan is worked out
The plan counts back from the fixed points of the year. The kitchen is turned over as late as practical: the day before the search for chametz, unless you pick another day. If that day is short, the turnover starts up to three days earlier, never sooner. Kitchen prep, like the fridge and oven, goes in the week before it, as late as your time allows, so the kitchen isn't cleaned and then used for chametz for weeks. Many guides want an item clean and unused for 24 hours before kashering, so ask your rabbi about timing. "Last week" jobs, like the car, go in the final seven days. Everything else is spread evenly from your start date. Helpers marked as a child get no kitchen, oven or turnover jobs unless you pick them for one. Nothing is planned on Shabbat, on days off, or after the search. If it doesn't fit, you see how many hours are missing and what you could drop.
Example: the starting list (25½ hours) with one person free 2 hours on weekdays, 4 on Sundays and 1½ on Fridays starts on March 24, 2027, the day after Purim. The fridge is cleaned on April 12, the oven on April 13, and the kitchen is turned over on April 18 and 19.
This planner plans your time. It doesn't rule on what counts as chametz, what you must clean or how to kasher anything. Follow your rabbi.
Questions people ask
When should I start cleaning for Pesach?
Many families start after Purim, 30 days before Pesach. In 2027 Purim is Tuesday, March 23, so the plan starts on March 24. In Jerusalem that day is Shushan Purim, so you may want to start a day later. Starting later? Set the start date to today and the plan fits the days you have, or says what doesn't fit.
When is bedikat chametz in 2027?
The search for chametz is on Tuesday evening, April 20, 2027. Chametz is burned the next morning, and the first seder is that evening, Wednesday, April 21. For exact local times, ask your rabbi or check a Jewish calendar such as hebcal.com.
What happens when erev Pesach falls on Shabbat?
The search moves to Thursday night and the burning to Friday morning, and the seder foods and items have to be ready before Shabbat. The plan then ends cleaning on Thursday and keeps Friday clear. This last happened in 2025 and next happens in 2045. Ask your rabbi about the Shabbat meals.
How long does Pesach cleaning take?
It depends on your home. A Chabad.org guide reckons about a day for the kitchen plus half a day for kashering and changing dishes, once you skip spring cleaning. Put your own estimate next to each room and the plan shows whether it fits.
What actually has to be cleaned for Pesach?
That is a question for your rabbi, not a planner. The Chabad.org guide stresses that Pesach cleaning is about chametz, not dust or spring cleaning. See the STAR-K chart, the Chabad.org guide and the cRc guide for first-timers below.
Is my plan saved?
Yes, on this device, every time you change something or tick a job. To move it to another phone or share it with your family, use Share link or Save to file. Each helper can also get a printed page of their own.
